Group Programs

The Drug and Alcohol Service offers a number of free group programs that can be accessed to help assist drug and alcohol treatment and recovery.

Some of these groups are open - meaning anyone can attend at any time. Others are closed and require referral from a Drug and Alcohol worker.

 

Relapse Prevention

The Relapse Prevention Program is a 10-week, skills based program that aims to provide participants with a range of useful strategies to assist them in being self-determining in regard to their alcohol and substance use.

  • Self esteem
  • Anxiety management
  • Depression management
  • Lifestyle choices
  • Relationships
  • Communication
  • Anger management
  • Emotional regulation

The following groups are facilitated by external providers and hosted by the Drug and Alcohol Service:-

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)

AA is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover alcoholism.

Details:

Women: Saturdays 1:00pm – 2:30pm

Mixed: Tuesdays 7:30pm – 9:00pm

Group Room 1 & 2, Centre for Addiction Medicine – Nepean Hospital.

Open Group – referral not required

Alcoholics Anonymous is facilitated by external providers and hosted by the Drug and Alcohol Service.

Narcotics Anonymous (NA)

A fellowship of men and women for whom drugs has become a major problem. Recovering addicts who meet regularly to help other stay off drugs (including alcohol). It is a program of complete abstinence from all drugs.

Thursdays and Sundays: 7:00pm-9:00pm

Open Group – referral not required

Narcotics Anonymous is facilitated by external providers and hosted by the Drug and Alcohol Service.

Yoga in Recovery

Yoga is available for all patients from the Inpatient Withdrawal Unit and Community.  Referral is through your Counsellor.

Details:

Monday – 10.30am to 11.30

Thursday – 2.30pm to 4.00pm

Group Rooms 1&2 Centre for Addiction Medicine - Nepean Hospital

Family Drug Support (FDS)

A support group for families, carers and friends affected by someone’s drug use. This support group provides a free, confidential and safe place for anyone who may be supporting someone with a drug or alcohol issue.

Details:

Second Tuesday of every month - 6:00pm to 8:00pm

Salvation Army 223 High St, Penrith – car park and access directly behind the building next door to ALDI.
