Information for Students
There are mandatory requirements health students need to complete for compliance before attending clinical placement in any NSW Health facility. This is covered in the NBMLHD Nursing and Midwifery Undergraduate Student Handbook.
All students must be compliant with NSW Health Policy Directive PD2020_017 Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases
This Policy you to be ‘protected’ against specific infectious diseases, at your own cost before attending placement in a NSW Health facility. You need to obtain verification compliance in the first year of your course.
Our Clinical Placement Unit works with your education provider to support student verification. We complete student verifications for TAFE NSW (Kingswood) and Western Sydney University (Hawkesbury and Kingswood). Verification documents are provided to the education provider and sent to our ClinConnect team to process.
You must ensure you have completed the document verification process seven days before starting your placement. ClinConnect will automatically cancel a clinical placement if you have not met the requirements.
When completing compliance verification, provide the following documents to your education provider, who will send these documents onto NSW Health to be screened.
- Criminal Record Check – obtained through NSW Police or a Crimtrac Accredited Brokers.
Overseas students on a student visa need to provide a National Police Certificate from their home country. Alternatively, the student can complete and provide a statutory declaration that they have no criminal convictions in any country prior to entering Australia.
- Signed NSW Health Code of Conduct.
- Evidence of vaccination compliance as per NSW Health Policy PD2020_017.
- Completed Appendix 6 student undertaking/declaration form.
- Completed Appendix 7 Tuberculosis Assessment.
We will let you know your compliance results as follows:
- Compliant and able to attend clinical placement.
- Temporary compliance for placements – the student must complete outstanding requirements within 6 months to become compliant. Temporary compliance is only assigned once.
- Non-compliant – students do not meet the requirements and cannot attend clinical placement.
Student follow up
Students with a temporary or non-compliant status will be provided with specific instructions to obtain compliance. This process will take up to 10 days.
