You will join over 440 JMOs working across the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District. 

We are part of NSW's Health Education & Training Institute (HETI) Prevocational Training and Education Network 14.

Active learning

As a JMO with Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District you will receive valuable training and experience while working closely with senior doctors, nurses and allied health clinicians to deliver care for patients.

IDE&S which stands for InterDisciplinary Education & Skills are themed two hour short, sharp sessions that Interns, First Year Graduate Nurses and Midwives as well as Allied Health Staff attend. For Junior Medical Officers this helps them to achieve various aspects of their program required for general registration. It is an opportunity to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary model for education that is relevant across all disciplines.

We have close connections with The University of Sydney, Western Sydney University, University of Technology Sydney and Notre Dame University.

JMOs are encouraged to join research projects and gain experience collaborating with senior clinicians on journal papers, poster presentations and participating in the annual Research Day hosted by The University of Sydney's Nepean Clinical School.

Our JMOs shape the future of healthcare

We value the experience and knowledge of our JMOs.

JMOs have opportunities to join senior medical, allied health, nursing and health management staff on committees that shape hospital policies, establish new models of care and inform the design of the $1 billion new Nepean Hospital.

We actively consult JMOs on patient safety and quality improvement by inviting them to provide feedback through structured surveys and committees.

JMOs who demonstrate leadership potential are encouraged to apply for our mentor programs that include one-on-one guidance from senior clinicians and clinical managers as well as learning through experience by JMOs mentoring other JMOs.

PGY3 JMOs provide feedback on training, professional development, rostering and safe working hours.

Our Hospitals

Nepean Hospital

A 500+ bed metropolitan tertiary hospital undergoing a $1 billion redevelopment and expansion located in one of NSW’s fastest growing regions. On completion, Nepean will be one of the largest tertiary hospitals in Australia.

Blue Mountains District ANZAC Memorial Hospital

A 100 bed regional hospital in the heart of the World Heritage listed Blue Mountains that has been part of the community for over 90 years

  • 2 operating theatres for low to moderate risk booked surgery

  • 24 hour emergency department

  • Close Observation Unit

Springwood Hospital

A 27 bed community hospital associated with Blue Mountains District ANZAC Memorial Hospital

Lithgow Hospital

A 46 bed rural hospital which shares the campus with The University of Notre Dame Australia Lithgow Clinical School. PGY2 doctors can rotate to Lithgow Hospital for a Rural Medicine term as part of the Prevocational Training and Education Network 14.
