Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District is playing its part in the fight against COVID-19, opening the doors to its very own Vaccination Hub.
Health care workers from across the District started to receive some of the first supply of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine as part of the vaccination rollout.
Among the first staff to be vaccinated at the Hub, located near Nepean Hospital, was Aboriginal staff member, Sharon Williams.
“I want to show to my family, my mob and my local community that getting vaccinated is safe,” says Ms Williams.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are considered one of the more at-risk groups when it comes to COVID-19.
“I’ll be encouraging everyone I know to get vaccinated. It’s a great way to keep our community protected,” says Ms Williams.

For Junior Medical Officer, Dr Joe Jabbour who works with some of the most vulnerable patients at Nepean Hospital the decision to get vaccinated was easy.
“I consider this another way of caring for my patients. It’s rewarding to know that I’ve done what I can to help protect them from the virus,” says Dr Jabbour.
Also rolling up their sleeves to receive the vaccination was Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District Chief Executive, Kay Hyman who says the opening is a welcome milestone in our COVID-19 response.
“I want to extend my sincere thanks and gratitude to all our staff who have, for over a year now, gone above and beyond in delivering care in trying circumstances,” says Mrs Hyman.
“We have all lived under a cloud of uncertainty for so long but what is now certain is this vaccination is the community’s best way to return to normal and help protect people from getting seriously ill.”
NSW is working closely with the Australian Government to implement a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccination program.
