Community invited to celebrate a healthy milestone

13 Nov 2018

Everyone is welcome to attend the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District Annual Public Meeting, with special guest and White Ribbon Advocate, Dr Angela Jay, on Thursday 22 November at Nepean Hospital.

At this free community event the Local Health District will report on its services and activity for the past 12 months and officially acknowledge the organisation’s recent accreditation as a White Ribbon Workplace.

Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District has been recognised by White Ribbon Australia as an organisation that is committed to stopping violence against women.

Dr Jay, an obstetrics and gynaecology doctor, will talk about the impact of family violence and sexual assault on women. She will also speak as a woman who has experienced violence.

To receive accreditation as a White Ribbon Workplace, NBMLHD demonstrated effective leadership, resource allocation, communication, HR policy development and training to create a safer and more respectful workplace.

As a District we have taken steps to:

  • Increase the knowledge and skills of staff and managers to address issues of violence against women.
  • Enhance the capacity of workplaces to respond to the issue of violence against women.
  • Change the attitudes and behaviours that allow violence against women to occur.

The District is proud to be officially recognised as a workplace pioneer that is contributing national cultural change to prevent and respond to violence against women.

The event will also be an opportunity for the community to meet and talk to key NBMLHD staff, including Chief Executive Kay Hyman who will present the Year in Review for the District and the Chair of the NBMLHD Board Peter Collins AM.
