New service resonates with community

Residents in Lithgow and Blue Mountains will soon be able to access advanced diagnostic services closer to home as a new Medical Resonance Imaging (MRI) facility at Lithgow Hospital is set to begin construction.
The $4 million project will see the installation of a new state-of-the-art MRI machine that enhances medical imaging services at Lithgow Hospital.
Lithgow Hospital General Manager, Bronwyn Boyling says the project is a first for the hospital and will complement existing services.
“We’re incredibly excited to offer this new service. The technology allows us to take detailed images of organs and tissues within the human body,” says Bronwyn.
“The MRI service will be a tremendous boost to our ability to offer high-quality health services locally.”
Along with a new MRI machine, the project will also see the construction of a new staff station, patient waiting area, change rooms and bathrooms at the southern end of the hospital.
Early works are being completed to prepare for the construction of the new facility, including minor demolition works to establish the construction site, which will have no impact to the current hospital services.
Main works construction will begin in the coming weeks, with construction of the facility scheduled for completion in the second half of 2022.
