Find support this National Carers Week

11 Oct 2021

Do you care for a family member or loved one who is unwell?

This year has been particularly tough for Australia’s over 2.65 million unpaid carers.

A carer is anyone who provides care and support to a family member or friend who lives with a disability, mental illness, alcohol or drug dependency, chronic condition, terminal illness or who is frail due to age.

Many people don’t see themselves as carers. They are just parents, children, partners or friends who care for someone close to them.

Carers face big challenges and make even bigger contributions to their communities, often sacrificing their own opportunities to support some of the most vulnerable people in society.

About one-third of carers provide 40 hours or more of unpaid care per week.

For National Carer’s Week, Carers NSW is hosting a range of free online events from 10 October – 16 October 2021 designed to help carers across the State.

If you are a carer, of if you know someone who is, then check out the event schedule here. Activities range from online webinars to self-care and wellbeing workshops.

There are additional forms of support available for unpaid carers. For more information check out Carers NSW, Carers Australia or find support through the national Carer Gateway.
