Great start earns accolades for radiographer
27 Apr 2022
When Diagnostic Radiographer Aaron O’Callaghan joined the Medical Imaging department at Nepean Hospital last year, he quickly became an invaluable member of the team.
Demonstrating an ability to learn quickly and adapt, he has also shown a commitment to compassionate and safe patient care.
A finalist for Early Career Allied Health Professional of the Year at the NSW Health Excellence in Allied Health Awards, Aaron says he’s excited to be recognised for excelling at a job he truly enjoys.
“I come to work every day with the intention of treating my patients how I would want my loved ones to be treated,” Aaron says.
“I love that I am able to make a positive impact on countless people’s lives using sophisticated technology to acquire diagnostic images that guide and inform the treatment and management of numerous conditions. Even though my time with patients is little, imaging plays an essential role in people’s health journeys and can have a profound impact on their lives.”
Able to confidently make clinical decisions, Aaron has performed well above the expected level of a new graduate radiographer and is already working towards becoming a senior on-call radiographer for angiography.
Working towards independent practice in angiography will give Aaron the opportunity to educate other radiographers, something he’s already demonstrated capability for with the delivery of an educational in-service on radiation safety for bariatric patients.
“I am still relatively new so every day I learn new things and continue my professional development. I hope my future in health will continue to be rewarding and patient focused so that the quality of care I deliver will only increase,” says Aaron.
Aaron is one of five finalists from Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District at the NSW Health Excellence in Allied Health Awards.
Congratulations to all our finalists: Sarah Gibson, Anwar Hassan, Emma Dole, Aaron O’Callaghan and Dr Laura Kirsten.
