As part of the Lithgow Community Mental Health Service at Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District (NBMLHD), Sonia Cox has worked tirelessly alongside communities, families and farmers in the local region during times of challenge and adversity.
Sonia, the Rural Adversity Mental Health Program Coordinator, has been instrumental in the introduction of a number of local programs to provide mental health support and improve the wellbeing of the community.
Sonia’s hard work and dedication to her local community was recently recognised when she was awarded the Mayor’s Special Recognition award from Lithgow City Council.
Sonia says, “I love getting out and about in my local area and having the opportunity to talk with, listen to and support those most in need. The Lithgow district is my home and it is where my heart is. I love the resilience of our local community and their generosity of spirit.”
NBMLHD Director of Mental Health, Cathy Crowe says this recognition of Sonia’s work is very well deserved.
“Sonia’s enthusiasm, passion and dedication for the wellbeing of the Lithgow community knows no bounds. She does incredibly important work and in doing so, has touched the lives of many people,” says Cathy.
