Never a better time to ask – R U OK?
09 Sep 2020
When was the last time you stopped to ask someone you know if they are ok? Now more than ever is the time to trust your instincts and ask the simple question many forget.
A conversation can save a life, and in this time where we are all dealing with the challenges of a global pandemic, it is so important to meaningfully connect and show support to those who may be struggling.
Suicide remains the leading cause of death for Australians aged between 15 and 44. By knowing what to say you can help someone feel supported and access appropriate help.
The ‘R U OK’ guide to what to say next’ can help you identify when to start the conversation, what to do if they say ‘I’m fine’ (but your gut tells you they aren’t) and how to deal with sadness.
On 10 September wear yellow to help raise awareness and take the time now, and throughout the rest of this strange year, to have meaningful conversations about how you are feeling.
If you or someone you know needs to talk there are services available. If you are in a life threatening situation please call Triple Zero (000) to receive immediate help.
