Blue Mountains Hospital Auxiliary Shop coordinator, Paula Savage
Supporting the supporters
20 Jan 2021
The Hospital Auxiliary Shop has been a familiar sight at the Blue Mountains Hospital for many years. People drop in to purchase gifts and interesting items from a wide selection and are greeted with friendly smiles and more by the volunteers running the shop.
Shop coordinator, Paula Savage, enjoys volunteering her time and doing that little bit extra.
“Sometimes you become a shoulder for somebody to lean on because we're not medical. We can have a laugh in here when the staff get to know us and it's better than sitting at home watching television!” says Paula.
The Blue Mountains Hospital Auxiliary is a generous supporter of the hospital. Funds raised from sales at the shop and other Auxiliary activities contribute close to $50,000 to the hospital each year. Items are selected from a wish list for the benefit of patients and staff.
Equipment purchased over the years include a defibrillator for the Emergency Department, playground furnishings for the Child and Adolescent Unit, new furnishings for the Rehabilitation Unit, a Bilirubin Monitor for new-born babies and replacement beds for the general wards.
The shop is open Monday to Friday from 10am – 1pm. Be sure to drop in, browse the shop’s wares and support those who support us.
