The nurse and the wardie: a love story
14 Feb 2020
For some people, spending 24 hours a day with their partner sounds like a recipe for disaster, but for Sean, Patient and Facility Logistics Manager and Nadia, Special Care Nursery NUM, it was just what the doctor ordered.
Having met at Nepean Hospital 18 years ago, it was love at first sight.
“She was a nurse in 2G, just starting out and I was a wardsperson. She saw me in the corridor with a patient and it was an instant attraction,” Sean recalled.
“I had long hair and was in a band – basically there was nothing she could do to resist me,” Sean joked.
Fast forward 18 years, a few bunches of flowers and love letters later, and they now have four boys aged 15, 13, 11 and 8.
It is clear the traits that attracted Sean and Nadia to each other, is also what makes them well suited to their jobs.
“Sean’s very loyal. He’s affectionate and very protective of the people he loves. He’s also a great father,” Nadia said.
They also love that they can ‘pop in’ and see each other if they’re having a rough day.
“She knows just what to say to put a smile back on my face,” Sean said.
And their tips for a long lasting relationship? Nadia says communication is key.
“We take time out of our hectic schedule for each other.”
