Speech Laryngology, Voice Assessment & Swallow ENT Surgical Outpatient Clinic

Specialised clinic provided to patients who need a nasendoscopy for Head and Neck surgeon and multidisciplinary team review to assess speech, swallow & post-operative recovery and assessment from head & Neck surgery.

Referral Criteria

ENT Surgeon

  • Head & Neck post-operative MDT follow up
  • Tracheostomy & Laryngectomy patients with difficulty in airway, swallowing, pain and discomfort related to their post-operative condition/recovery 
  • Routine Cancer surveillance
  • Patient resides in NBMLHD
  • 18yrs and older

Speech Pathology Referral Criteria

Clinic Eligibility Criteria Exclusion Criteria
SPLARY Clinic

Any patient with a laryngectomy who resides in NBMLHD regardless of where original surgery was performed.

*One-off session for any laryngectomy patient who does not reside in NBMLHD but had their surgery performed at Nepean Hospital.

*One-off session for a patient with a laryngectomy who is staying in or passing through NBMLHD and requires urgent SP intervention.

(*This will be on discretion from Speech Pathologist and ENT team. Patients will be referred back to their local Speech Pathology service.)

Any patient who does not have a laryngectomy.

Stable laryngectomy patients who reside outside NBMLHD.

Patients currently receiving active radiation therapy and NCCC Speech Pathology input. Please refer to NCCC Speech Pathology clinic criteria. After laryngectomy patients have received radiation therapy treatment, they will be referred back to SPLARY clinic.
SPENT Clinic

Patient lives in NBMLHD.

ENT or Plastics/MaxsFacs referred dysphagia or trismus (dental or neurological trismus to be referred to Speech Pathology Dysphagia clinic).

Head and Neck surgery outpatient follow-up e.g. glossectomy. Includes pre-op education.

Outpatient tracheostomy; includes pre-op and outpatient follow-up.

Dysphagia or trismus (dental or neurological trismus) that is not related to ENT/Head and Neck surgery – refer to Nepean Hospital Dysphagia clinic.

Out of area; Speech Pathologist will see for one off on ENT request before redirecting to local service.

Patients currently receiving active radiation therapy and NCCC Speech Pathology input. Chronic H&N cancer patients with nil H&N surgical input. Refer to NCCC Speech Pathology clinic criteria.
SPHN Clinic (MDT Clinic) Outpatient laryngectomy, tracheostomy, or head and neck surgical patients requiring MDT input. Patients who do not require MDT input. Patients who do not have an ENT consultant working in NBMLHD. Out of area. Voice therapy.
      

ENTVOICE (MDT Clinic)

Patient resides in NBMLHD.

Outpatient FEES work up and FEES procedure requiring ENT nasendoscopy.

Outpatient voice assessment requiring nasendoscopy and stroboscopy assessment.
Voice therapy - Patients requiring voice therapy will be referred to SPVOICE (West Block clinic).            

Out of area; Speech Pathologist will see for one off on ENT request

Before redirecting to local service.

Surgeon referral - must be addressed to one of our Head & Neck Specialists.
Speech Pathology referral – must be addressed to ENT Speech Pathology

Referral Requirements and Pre Diagnosis

  • Must bring Medicare Card, referral letter including any medical management provided, and any previous test results, reports and scans.
  • Speech Pathology referral- requires all available information including GP & treating specialist’s treatments & medical management.
  • Appointments are bulk-billed.
  • Please arrive approximately 10 minutes prior to appointment arrival time to check in at reception & update contact details if needed.
