Multicultural Health Services
The role of the Multicultural Health Service is to improve the capacity of the Local Health District to identify and
meet the specific cultural, religious and linguistic needs of its diverse population and address health inequities.
The Service provides strategic direction, consultancy, workforce development, project development and liaison
with respect to health care for culturally and linguistically diverse communities. While working in partnership with
other government and non-government agencies the Service helps build the capacity of CALD communities and
individuals to identify and address their health needs and actively participating in their own health care.
Key policies and programs which drive the delivery of culturally relevant programs and services include the
“Policy and Implementation Plan for Healthy Culturally Diverse Communities, The NSW Refugee Health Plan,
and the NSW State “Multicultural Policies and Services Program”.
