|Hand Hygiene and Infection Control
Hand hygiene is one important factor in preventing hospital infections.

Hand hygiene stations are located on every ward and throughout Nepean Hospital.
It is a condition of entry to NICU that all visitors follow Hand Hygiene Protocols.
About the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
The Nepean Hospital NICU provides state-of-the-art, comprehensive specialty care to newborn infants with a wide range of congenital and acquired conditions, including extremely premature infants born as early as 23 weeks gestation. Our NICU admits between 1000 and 1100 newborns per year, approximately 10% of these are under 30 weeks gestation at birth.
Nepean NICU is renowned for its leading work in neonatal nutrition. It was the first Australian NICU to provide routine Probiotics, and is very involved in research about parenteral nutrition, breast milk and body composition. We are proud to have an award winning nursing lead RetCam team and very active Developmental Care team.
